FUN DAY PLAN TO HAVE FUN!!!

Posted: April 7, 2014 in Uncategorized

Sunday will be a great time to take pictures – or better still movies of your favourite Timbit – (I like the old fashioned ones myself!). The Timbits will be doing 7 “events” that are guaranteed to be fun to watch. I am hoping to get a few shots myself – maybe even with the goPro camera.

1. Skating with a parachute on – say no more

2. Pushing a tire

3. Pushing a  bucket through pylons

4. Stick handling a ringette ring through a line of straight pylons with the pylons between their legs

5. Trying to hit buckets with a puck using their forehand and backhand passes

6 Shooting 10 pucks trying to score on our allstar PVC goalies 5 on the forehand, five on the backhand

7.Our answer to the fire department’s Stop, drop and roll!

Every team will have at least one medal for the winner of each event.I have extras in the case of ties.

There has been some discussion about whether it is the correct philosophy to give “winner” medals. My read on this from 30+ years of coaching is that kids are more like snowboarders than we think. Snowboarders who lose  run up right away to congratulate the winner on their amazing trick or run – they CELEBRATE  the sport. That is what this is about for Timbits. We should forget the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” – that was the wrong idea when it appeared in Wide World of Sport and still is! The real issue is what happens if one player on a team wins all 7 medals – I can’t believe that when instructors look at their score cards that will be the case.It never has been.

REMEMBER ALL PLAYERS WILL RECEIVE A DAVID MACDONALD MEMORIAL MEDAL for particip[ating in the day.

David was a former Initiation instructor and brother of Jonathan MacDonald who works with the IP1’s. Jonathan will be presenting medals to all players on Sunday.

I will need help on ice and on the bench  to run and “score” the seven events.I am looking for 4 parents from each team – some on ice some off.
