Focus: We will continue the focus of our practices in IP1 on two different goals:

  1. Beginning skating (balance and push!) with our orange buckets – HUGE IMPROVEMENTS
  2. Developing power by opening up the hips, bending the knees and pushing on the edges

WARM UP : – Skate with pucks …. Try for shorter time!

ALL IN (shorter time – only go to Ringette line since orange buckets will be at that end.) :

Fast as you can

Two foot glide with stick across the knees

Apart together

Fall at every line

Fast as you can

FIVE STATIONS (APPROXIMATELY 6 players per station 5 – 6 minutes per station)

  1. RINGETTE RING KEEP AWAY

Location: Left Faceoff circle

Goal: To develop balance and agility

VOCAB: “Turn your stick over and push down to hold on to the ring. Keep skating inside the circle. Don’t let me get your ring.”

  1. SIDEWAYS TUG OF PEACE

Location: Right Face off circle

Goal: To develop inside edge control on both sides (beginning of stopping) by digging in the inner edge to maintain balance against a pull from a partner. Tug of “peace” not war!

VOCAB: I want you and your partner to put down your sticks and grab the bicycle tire in one hand. Dig in your edge sideways so your partner can’t move you. This is a tug of peace – – just pull lTry the other side.”

  1. STRAIGHT LINE PYLON SKATE WITH TALL PYLONS

Location: Across the ice between the ringette line and blue line

Goal: To develop one foot push with power on alternating feet

VOCAB: “I want you to push hard with one foot between the pylons. Try to only push once – Right foot then left foot.”

  1. SKATE IN, PICK UP THE PUCK AND SHOOT ON PVC GOALIE

Location: Between the red and blue line (pylons on red and blue lines)

Goal: Puck control while skating, shooting “where the goalie isn’t”

VOCAB

  1. PYLON FIGURE EIGHT GLIDE

Location: Between the ringette line and the blue line

Goal: To develop inside edge control needed in turning.

VOCAB: “Skate toward the pylon and glide around it then go to the other pylon and glide around it. We will be making a giant number eight. Make sure you push hard with your edges and keep your knees bent.
