First – orange buckets – time to get them to spend less time on them!

Warm up skate:  Skate with pucks

ALL IN – All players including orange buckets

  1. Fast as you can x 2
  2. 1,2,3 glide …repeat
  3. Lift one foot at every line
  4. Sculling (together apart)
  5. Two knees at every line

STATIONS: (6)

  1. Basketball corner 1
  2. Fast shot competition with two lines and one net corner 2
  3. Backward skating blue line (using pylons)
  4. Hotdog, hamburger and fries passing drill centre ice circle
  5. Stopping – THEY NEED TO BELIEVE THEY CAN TURN AND STOP so use their stick across their chest and have them pull the stick to 90 degrees blue line
  6. Two player pass through tires and shoot on net corner 3 with PVC goalie

Note: ORANGE BUCKETS ARE IN CORNER 4

Wrap up game:  Escape  – Players are safe in the faceoff circles

 

Overall goals:

  1. Power in the push with both feet
  2. Edge control
  3. Balance and weight transfer during change in direction
  4. Puck handling – especially passing
  5. Stopping
  6. Backward skating

WARM UP – skate with pucks NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES

One, two, three  – glide

Together, apart (sculling)

One knee touch at every line

Stop at every line ( using sticks) with alternating sides ( face stands) x 2

Forward backward transition at every line

 

STATIONS (5) INSTRUCTORS ROTATE WITH THEIR PLAYERS

NOTE: NEED FOUR NETS

Goaltending at one end in the crease 1 net  – other goalie is in drill 5

  1. Faceoff – rapid shot competition 1 net (one puck at a time) net #1
  2. Set up behind the net with partner in front of net – PVC goalie net #2
  3. Backward skating “PUSH WITH YOUR TOES” around pylons
  4. Figure 8 around pylons with a puck
  5. Two- passing through the tires ending with a shot on net #3
  6. Goalie training Net #4

WRAP UP: 5 games of keep away in the five circles (One puck)

I am still perplexed by two things:

  1. Some teams have no parent on the bench with water and this is a huge distraction since the players go to the main gate and parents come down to give them water – THIS HAS TO STOP!
  2. Some teams have no parent on ice. This is a lost opportunity to get a parent involved as a coach in the future.

  6. Rolling dodge ball  corner 3  – Orange buckets in corner 4

  3. Tire Pull – POWER!!
  4. Pass ..pass… pass….  Shoot  (* need one net)
  5. Two- passing through the tires ending with a shot on net  WITH GOALIE
  6.  Tight turns on the boards around a pylon both directions
